Focus of Work
The Favell Museum launched the Voices of the Klamath River Watershed initiative to create a permanent exhibit exploring the geologic, natural, and human history of one of the American West’s most culturally and environmentally complex landscapes. Recognizing the exhibit would address Tribal history, agriculture, water management, conservation, ecological restoration, and other stories from across the Klamath, the museum engaged Seatone to establish and facilitate a diverse steering committee. The group developed a shared vision and organizational foundation and is now moving the project from concept to exhibit design and, in time, construction and installation.
Our Approach
Seatone designed and facilitated a collaborative planning process that emphasized relationship-building, balanced participation, and thoughtful deliberation around sensitive historical and contemporary issues. Working closely with the museum director and steering committee, Seatone helped the group define the exhibit’s purpose, establish operating procedures and collaborative decision-making protocols, and engage in collaborative discussions on project scope, storytelling and outreach. As the project concept evolved, Seatone translated the committee’s shared vision into a comprehensive Request for Proposals, leading to the successful identification and contracting of an exhibit design firm.
Key Outcomes
The collaborative process has transformed an initial museum concept into a well-organized initiative with a shared vision, clear governance structure, and practical roadmap for exhibit development. The steering committee established a collaborative framework that continues to guide the project while strengthening relationships among individuals representing diverse communities and perspectives across the watershed. The early stages culminated in the selection of an exhibit design firm, positioning the museum to move into exhibit design and development, with the collaborative foundation and facilitation support available as needed to navigate challenges as the project advances.
